Hope Solo & Adrian Peterson Announced as Honorees
We’re thrilled to announce Hope Solo and Adrian Peterson as honorees for Sports Spectacular 2013!
Hope will be awarded the Female Athlete of the Year award, which is presented to an outstanding female in sports who demonstrates exceptional leadership and performance on the field.
Hope has started in goal for the USA at every level of the U.S. National Team program, including 31 of 32 for the US Women’s National team in 2012, helping to lead them to a gold medal at the London Olympics.
As the top goalkeeper in Pac-10 history, Hope finished her career as Washington’s all-time leader in shutouts (18), saves (325) and GAA (1.02). She has since returned to Seattle, where she now plays for the Seattle Reign in the NWSL.
Hope has also been a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars where she finished in the top-4 couples, and recently became a best-selling author with the release of her autobiography: Solo: A Memoir of Hope.
Adrian will receive the Inspirational Athlete of the Year award, which is presented to the athlete who, in the face of injury, and in conjunction of the medical community, has defied the odds and inspired us all.
Drafted 10th overall by the Vikings in 2007, Adrian made an impact immediately, setting the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards, and later earning Pro-Bowl MVP honors during his rookie season.
After undergoing surgery in late 2011 to repair torn ligaments in his knee, there were doubts about whether he would be available the following season. AP silenced those doubts by returning faster and stronger in 2012, notching the 2nd-best single-season rushing mark in NFL history with 2,097 yards, and earning Offensive Player of the Year and NFL MVP honors.
Off the field, Adrian with youth through his All Day Foundation, with the motto “Giving Back Every Day, All Day”
We’re so excited to have both of these phenomenal athletes join us at Sports Spectacular 2013! Stay tuned for more from Hope and AP as we approach May 19th…
